Funding opportunities
Sequencing support
Over the next three years, we will be giving many awards in the amount of ~$5,200 USD to support short-read sequencing of your samples to our data requirements. Visit the sequencing grants page for information on how to apply.
Bioinformatics support
We will be hiring a bioinformatician on the project who can help process your sequences through our pipeline. Stay tuned for information on how to apply for their help.
Stipends for data submission
We will be offering stipends to members of the network who complete the MacroMar workflow for their datasets. Stay tuned for information on how to apply.
Stipends for MarineOmics Tutorials
We will be offering stipends for the development of tutorials on MarineOmics. Examples of tutorials we would be interested in (but not limited to):
- population genomics of polyploid data
- bench protocols for special cases when kits don’t work (e.g., extraction of DNA from whelks)
- isolation by distance with Type II regression
- tips for population genomics of plankton samples
Tutorials do not necessarily need to feature marine species, but should clarify how the tutorial will be useful for scientists working in non-model and marine species. Stay tuned for information on how to apply.
Working group support
We will be offering stipends to support the development of working groups and the participation of early career individuals or key stakeholders in working groups.
Current working groups for MacroMar can be found on this page. If you are interested in joining an existing working group, please contact the group leader.
Stay tuned for for information on how to submit an application to support a working group.
Examples of working groups we would be interested in (but not limited to):
- Further development of metadata standards for MacroMar
- Indigenous metadata and best practices for the CARE principles
- Standards for marine environmental data and how to summarize variables
- Plankton population genomics
- How to summarize structure in the ocean
Travel support
Stipends are available to support travel to our workshops. Stay tuned for information on how to apply.
MacroMar Liasons and Research Pods
In the near future, we will accepting applications for MacroMar Liasons. Liasons will receive training in the MacroMar workflow and lead the formation of small research pods (3-6 members) who will work together to bring their data up to FAIR standards. Liasons will receive a stipend. Stay tuned for information on how to apply.
